Report: Incorrect to bind anti-Russia sanctions, nuke weapons–spox
MOSCOW, Jan 23 (PRIME) -- It is barely possible to bind easing of the U.S. sanctions against Russia to nuclear disarmament from the expert point of view, spokesman for the president Dmitry Peskov told Web site vesti.ru in an interview published on January 21.
U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier that easing of the sanctions against Russia can be tied to a nuclear arms reduction deal.
Peskov said: “Nuclear disarmament is a conceptual umbrella term but it consists of a vast number of nuances… It cannot be disproportionate. We and the U.S. have different compositions of the nuclear component. So any symmetrical cuts are unacceptable and inappropriate.”
“They can lead to a break of what is the crucial thing: nuclear parity, nuclear deterrence. And President (Vladimir) Putin talked about it on numerous occasions. This plays a crucial role in ensuring global stability and safety. This is why it will be barely possible to bind the issue of sanctions and nuclear arms reduction from the expert point of view in the future.”
